The dar_manager utility which is installed with dar can maintain a database in which the contents of Dar archives can be stored, making it easier to find different versions of the same file, or locate a file among multiple differential backups. For further information about the database and its use see the dar_manager manual.
The Database Manager
screen is opened by selecting Edit
-> Database.
The database manager displays a list of the archives which have been added to the database and their locations. The symbol on the left of each line indicates whether the archive has been found in its location. If the selected archive has been found then clicking the Open button will open the archive, replacing the archive currently displayed in the main window.
If the database manager is unable to find an archive the symbol
alongside will either be red, indicating that the archive has been
moved or deleted, or orange, indicating that the folder in which it was
located has not been found and may be on an external drive which is not
present.
To detect an archive on an external drive which was not present
when the database manager was opened, connect the external drive and
click on Refresh.
To add an archive to the database, open it and check the option Store in database in the Archive menu.
To remove an archive from the database, either open it and uncheck the option Store in database in the Archive menu or right-click on it in the Database manager and select the option Remove archive.
